Media Access to ATL
Access to pre-security checkpoints
Credentialed members of the media are permitted to record in the public areas at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Public areas are defined as those locations that do not require a boarding pass or restricted area pass to enter. As a courtesy, media outlets are asked to contact the ATL Policy and Communications division when filming on-site (media@atl.com ).
Access to post-security checkpoints
Journalists with proper identification may request a security screen and escort beyond security checkpoints. Media working beyond security must be escorted at all times by a badged representative of the Airport or other approved agency.
Baggage carousels, ticketing counters, and concessionaires’ leased spaces are not considered public areas. Media wishing to access such areas must notify the respective tenant.
While filming on-site:
- Media must respect the direction of Airport staff at all times, including, but not limited to, requests for identification.
- Media personnel are responsible for obtaining permission from all individuals being interviewed and must respect the wishes of those who do not desire to be on camera.
- Media cannot film security inspections and security checkpoints without proper approval from the Department of Aviation and Transportation Security Administration. Depending on the nature of the shoot, approval from U.S. Customs and Border Protection may also be necessary.
- Media must respect operational and security staff at all times.
- Media cannot block or restrict passenger movements.
- Media must park vehicles properly in parking lots.
Media parking
The Airport has raised its security posture and updated media curbside parking rules to ensure the safety and security of the public and Airport employees. Here are our updated guidelines. Media parking is provided on a first-come, first-served basis at two locations: the Domestic Terminal and International Terminal.
Domestic Terminal
Members of the media may park in the marked spaces in the uncovered area immediately beyond the exit of the North Hourly parking lot at 6000 North Terminal Parkway.
NO PARKING ON THE MEDIAN/CURB: All media vehicles or personal cars representing media outlets that are parked on airport terminal curbsides or in the former media area at N7 will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
WHERE MEDIA VEHICLES MUST PARK: All media vehicles (marked, unmarked, and satellite trucks) are relocated to the Hourly Parking exit plazas at the North and South parking decks, effective immediately, and until further notice. Designated spots are available; if those areas are full, the Hourly Parking decks must be used at the vehicle operator’s expense. If a large satellite truck or oversized vehicle will be utilized, please call 10 minutes before arrival to the ATL-Enforcement duty phone (404-807-3967) or the Media duty phone to coordinate entry into the exit plaza area.
DASHBOARD SIGNS/PLACARDS: All media vehicles or personal cars representing media outlets are required to have a dashboard sign or placard displayed prominently in the windshield while in designated media spots. The sign or placard MUST include the name of the outlet, vehicle make, model, and color, tag number, and a point of contact with a phone number for emergencies.
PERSONAL VEHICLES FOR MEDIA OUTLETS: Vehicles representing media outlets MUST park in the spaces provided in North or South Hourly Parking exit plazas and display the sign/placard containing the required information listed above.
