HARTSFIELD-jackson anticipates 3.6 million passengers over thanksgiving travel period
Holiday travel projections are approaching pre-pandemic numbers.
ATLANTA— With millions of passengers expected to travel through Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, Airport officials today reminded the public of the best way to navigate the world’s busiest and most efficient airport. “The best traveler is a well-informed traveler,” said Candace Brown, ATL Assistant General Manager for Public Safety and Security. “Plan before you go, and the trip will be much easier.”
She reminded passengers to arrive at the Airport at least two-and-a-half hours before scheduled domestic departure and three hours before international flights. Airport leaders also directed the public to ATL.com for up-to-the-minute updates on parking, passenger wait times, and concessions options. The recent closure of the South Economy Lot to facilitate construction of a new, multilevel lot will require customers to pay close attention to parking options. Reservation options can be found under the parking menu on the Airport website.
Today’s press conference was held at the newly expanded Concourse T midpoint. The two-year, $68 million project added a bank of new elevators and escalators that will enhance efficiency and make for a smoother experience for passengers at one of the busiest locations in the Airport.
Joining ATL leaders at the press conference were Transportation Security Administration officials, a representative from Delta Air Lines, and a spokesperson for AAA.
The renovation and expansion of Hartsfield-Jackson as part of ATLNext, its multibillion-dollar capital improvement program, will be paused from the evening of Wednesday, Nov. 22, through Saturday, Nov. 25. Work will resume Sunday night for select projects with limitations and resume as normal on Monday, Nov. 27.
Travelers are encouraged to follow the suggestions listed below:
Passengers should visit atl.com for flight information, security line times, airlines, parking availability, and parking reservations.
Passengers should monitor their airline’s social media updates and download its mobile app for updated flight information.
Consult TSA guidelines to help expedite the screening process.
Do not attempt to bring weapons through TSA screening. Follow airline and TSA guidelines to check weapons for travel.
Do not wrap gifts. Use gift bags that may be easily opened if additional screening is required at a checkpoint.
Remain vigilant of suspicious activities. If you see something, say something. Call 911 in the event of an emergency.
ATL green-coated guest service representatives are prepared to offer assistance and answer questions.
